Art For Grabs: APOKALIS!

Arts & Craft Bazaar, Launching, Leature, Screening and much more...
November 2012, Sat 15 & Sun 16 | 12 - 8pm
Admission Free!

Presented by Buku Fixi & The Annexe Gallery
Sponsored by IPPF ESEAOR (International Planned Parenthood Federation - East & South East Asia & Oceania Region)

Were the Mayans right or wrong? If the world will indeed end (or change drastically!) on December 22, you could do worse things with your last weekend (or your last weekend of this era) than hang out with the earthy folks at Art for Grabs.

As usual, we have dozens of stalls featuring arts & crafts by our funkiest vendors such as the offbeat Chi Too, the recycling genius Carolyn Lau, the mouth-watering Artisan Fruit jam, the popular IHeartBadges, including the fortune-telling Jolin Kwok to tell us if we make it past the Apokalips. In case the world does survive, we will still need to keep improving it. So come and be part of a few good causes with our sponsored booths: Amnesty International, SUARAM, Jom Vote and Tanma Federation, plus an interactive section by our sponsor IPPF ESEAOR (International Planned Parenthood Federation - East & South East Asia & Oceania Region).

We have 16 hours of events that include forums, launches and movie screenings. Featuring James Lee, Dina Zaman & Present Tense Plus, BFM’s WTF duo Uma & Jo; book launches by Fixi, Selut, Lejen & Sharon Bakar; and more.

All the events are FREE.

The camaraderie, charm and creativity you will find here will make you glad to be alive. So even if it’s not the end of the world as we know it, you’ll feel fiiiine.

ART FOR GRABS: Apokalips! is jointly presented by IPPF ESEAOR, The Annexe Gallery and Fixi Books.

The keris has long been seen as a virile symbol of Malayness. It's been glorified, and many pursue it as an affirmation of status. Yet it is reviled too, for idolising the keris is syirk. But what is the keris? How did a weapon used by Malay warriors and Sultans end up in the storerooms of old junk stores and dying keris makers? Zulkhairu Mohammad is a keris fanatic and advocate. He and his friends will share an hour of their love and experience.
